Our Heritage
In 1965, Pastor Chuck Smith began his ministry at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa with just twenty-five people. From the beginning, Pastor Chuck welcomed all, young and old, without judgment, placing his emphasis on the teaching of the Word of God. His simple, yet sound, biblical approach attracted many people.
With a sincere concern for the lost, Pastor Chuck made room in his heart and his home for a generation of hippies and surfers, generating a movement of the Holy Spirit that spread from the West Coast to the East Coast, and now, throughout the world. What began as a small local church has now grown into an international ministry of over 1,800 fellowships throughout the world.
The documentary, A Venture In Faith, captures the history and philosophy of Calvary Chapel. The film demonstrates how God began a revival in a period known as the “Jesus Movement” through one man’s faith and obedience.
Our story
In November of 2015, with his wife, Sheri, at his side, Eddie Sahakian stepped out by faith to plant Calvary Chapel Brazos Valley. The church began as a home fellowship, and within a few months, the Lord opened the doors for them to lease a storefront to gather in. Recognizing the hunger people had for fellowship and verse-by-verse biblical teaching, Eddie desired to have the church gather as often as possible throughout the week. Over time God began to increase the church.
In September of 2018, Calvary Chapel Brazos Valley moved to a church building on State Highway 21. The Lord has faithfully added to the church as we continue in His vision to reach the lost with the Gospel and produce spiritual growth in believers through the teaching of God’s Word.
Our Mission
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” — Acts 1:8
Our fourfold mission is to testify of the truth and power of Jesus Christ by the indwelling and leading of the Holy Spirit in our community, state, country, and the world.
To reach our Jerusalem is to minister to the people of Bryan, College Station, and the surrounding communities. Our Judea is extending our presence in the Brazos Valley by eventually planting Calvary Chapels in these communities. Our Samaria is to utilize our online ministry to proclaim the Good News from coast to coast. Finally, we desire to evangelize the world through short-term missions trips and the financial support of long-term missionaries.
Our Vision
We exist to see souls saved and lives changed by preaching, teaching, and living God's Word.
Evangelism is preaching God’s Word as the Holy Spirit calls the unregenerate to salvation. Teaching God’s Word is the foundation for nourishing believers into spiritual maturity. All believers are to live God’s Word because it gives credence to the truth and power of God in the lives of His children. Our desire is for God to raise evangelists, teachers, pastors, mature believers, and godly families among the church.
